Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez:
There are books that tell the story of a life, and there are books that mark the end of an era. I believe Stefan Zweig's The World of Yesterday does both.
In its first half, this great writer describes his childhood and youth in a Europe that was cosmopolitan, where friendships crossed borders.
Europe is self-confident, convinced that interdependence between nations and societies is the best antidote to armed conflict.
The second part, on the other hand, tells how nationalism and ancient hatreds destroyed this world, destroyed bonds and certainties that seemed solid but in the end turned out not to be.
