Flash: Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Weber has offered his government's resignation to King Philippe after overnight coalition talks on the 2027 budget collapsed.
The five-party "Arizona" coalition has been deadlocked for months over more than €10 billion in savings until 2029, needed to bring the deficit into EU law.
The king did not accept the resignation.
He warned that Belgium cannot afford a protracted crisis, will consult with coalition party leaders from Tuesday, and will meet de Weber again on Friday.
Belgium's deficit was about 5.2% of GDP in 2025, and its public debt is over 108%.
