Syria's new textbooks for the years 2025-2026, the first under President Ahmed al-Shara'a, have written the way in which the Arab revolt against the Ottoman rule is taught.

The term "Great Arab Revolt" dropped and the anti-Turkish language softened.

The 2017-18 edition from the Assad era states that the Great Arab Revolt (1916-1918), led by Sharif Hussein, was intended to "liberate the Arab lands from Ottoman Israel and the rule of the Unionist Turks."

The new edition calls it "Hussein Ben Ali's rebellion movement", whose goal was "to break the Arab lands from the Ottoman state".

Where the old text says that the war in the East was fought "to free the nations from the injustices of the Turks", the new one says that its purpose was to "drive the Ottomans out of the region".
