Several hundred young protesters briefly pushed their way into Rome's Colosseum on Saturday during nationwide protests in Italy against the cost of living, Georgia Maloney's government and the war in Gaza.

The group broke away from a larger authorized march, passed the gates and entered the ancient amphitheater for several minutes while tourists were still inside, many waving Palestinian flags and chanting.

Police and site staff quickly evacuated them, and Italy's Ministry of Culture said there was no damage to the monument and no injuries.

The protests, organized by student groups and the newly formed "October 17 Movement," took place in Rome, Turin, Bologna, Milan and other cities, echoing recent unrest in France.
