Obama:

I've heard the argument that the president did some things that people wanted to do, like tighten the border.

And you know what? I believe that we do need to make sure that our border is orderly and secure and that people who want to come here do so legally.

In fact, when I was president, I was criticized by some close Democratic allies for tightening border enforcement.

But I don't recall anyone campaigning about sending masked agents to run our streets.

I don't recall anyone talking about law abiding citizens being arrested, detained or shot.

We didn't ask for it. This is not what we need to do to take control of our borders.
