US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barak on Syria:

I think that Israel and Syria will reconcile, because President Al-Sharaa was very clear when he said: "I have no predatory interest in you, and I want to calm these waters."

And Al-Shara'a does not have Hezbollah, he did not fire a shot, they never attacked Israel. He tells Israel that we do not want to attack.

Israel just says, "Oh, I'm not so sure about you yet. You were a fundamentalist fighter, al-Nusra. You have foreign fighters stationed in divisions along my border. I need some space along my border. After October 7, I simply will not let anyone cross my border."

So we're building trust - we've had five great border and border discussions with them, starting in Paris in May 2024. We're almost there. I think we will get there again.
