The CEO of Israeli drone maker Xtend says the company's ultimate goal is Ender Game, the 1980s sci-fi novel whose protagonist unknowingly commits a real killing while believing it is a simulation game.

In an interview segment, Shapira is described as having posters of the film adaptation of the book in all the company's offices, aspiring to a world where soldiers, like the main character of the novel, can control many drones at once.

In the book, the protagonist discovers too late that his kill counts were real.

In describing Xtend's partnership with the IDF, Shapira's brother said in a separate interview:

"We basically built a computer game about how to defeat the bad guys without endangering ourselves."
