German defense officials have advised Berlin to join Sweden and Spain in a new fighter jet project instead of the UK-led Global Air Program (GCAP).

The assessment calls a German-Swedish-Spanish partnership "the more beneficial and promising option", although it is not a final government decision and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has not approved it.

It follows the collapse in June of the Franco-German FCAS program after years of disputes between Dassault and Airbus over control and work sharing.
