Trump believes Ukraine is deliberately attacking Russian refineries to drive up global energy prices and hurt Republicans in November's midterm elections.

Three people close to Trump told The Atlantic that he sees these attacks as an attempt to undermine the Republican election chances, and subsequently his presidency.

This belief has reportedly fueled his anger towards Kiev, whose government is threatening to limit US military and intelligence support unless Ukraine stops targeting Russian energy infrastructure.
