The U.S. offered to release part of the Russian sovereign's assets and transfer them to a fund under Washington's control to help revive peace talks in Ukraine.

The proposal, presented by Steve Vitkof and Jared Kushner during the talks in Miami last week, was rejected by European officials, who opposed relinquishing control of the assets or returning any of them to Moscow.

Approximately €260 billion in Russian assets remain frozen, mainly in the European Union.
