Italian Prime Minister Meloni: It is always difficult for me to understand this tendency in foreign policy: the idea that we must have allies, and that as soon as we define them as allies, we blindly assume that if we are allies of the United States, we must basically do whatever the United States tells us. If we are in Europe, or if we are pro-European, we must agree with everything Europe says. Within Europe, we supposedly have to agree with France and Germany. So if we take initiatives with Germany, we have to do whatever Germany wants. That's not how I understand foreign policy.
