Kamala Harris' husband, Doug Amhoff, has privately told PEOPLE that he would rather she not run for president again, while some major Democratic donors have warned her that a 2028 bid would be a long shot.

Harris hasn't decided whether to run, but has laid the groundwork by meeting with donors, hiring a political team and campaigning for Democrats ahead of the November term.

Many Democrats, including some close to Harris, believe the party needs a new candidate after its 2024 defeat by Trump.
