Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is facing a bipartisan backlash over plans to televise the Dec. 3 execution of Nidal Malik Hassan, who was sentenced to death for killing 13 people in a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood.
It would be the first execution by the US military in six decades.
Republican and Democratic lawmakers condemned the program as a disrespectful public spectacle that could inspire terrorism.
Republican Sen. Tom Tillis said public executions are associated with oppressive regimes like Iran and Afghanistan and "should not be happening in America."
