Greece has agreed to spend up to $4 billion on US military weapons and upgrades, including advanced missiles, bombs and upgrading older F-16 fighter jets to the Viper version.

The deal follows Marco Rubio's visit to Athens and is part of Greece's broader defense modernization program of 28 billion euros until 2036, which includes F-35 fighter jets, Black Hawk helicopters and an air defense system equipped in Israel.

The costs will be spread over several years, with officials saying most of the purchases have already been budgeted for.
