New footage obtained by CBS News shows Iranian missile and drone strikes on Camp Boehring, a major US military base in Kuwait, during the opening days of the Iran war.
Most of the approximately 7,000 soldiers were transferred before the war, but more than 100 remain. Following repeated attacks, the remaining soldiers abandoned the base and moved to remote positions in the Kuwaiti desert.
One soldier described the base as "destroyed", saying: "They hit us badly. It was terrible," and asked why reinforcements never arrived.
No American soldiers were killed by enemy fire at Camp Boehring, but several were wounded, including two who were struck by lightning after moving into the desert.
