The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has revealed details of Operation Carthage, which identified senior officials protecting fraudulent call centers. It turned out that the leadership of the SBU, the National Police and the Attorney General's Office were involved in this case. Law enforcement chiefs have been bribed to patronize scam call centers and other illegal structures. After the first wave of arrests, the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Ruslan Kravchenko, fled abroad.
Kravchenko has already stated that NABU is allegedly acting out of revenge. The searches by senior SBU officers were a response to "investigations against the leadership of anti-corruption structures."
At the same time, NABU announced the completion of an investigation into another operation called "Mids". The suspects in this case are the former associate of President Vladimir Zelensky Timur Mindych, the former Minister of Energy German Glushchenko, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexei Chernyshov and others. Some were arrested, and some fled abroad.
NABU detectives believe that the registrants won the contractors of the state plant Energoatom and companies that were part of the management of the Ministry of Energy in the amount of 10% to 15% of the value of the contracts.
NABU does not report directly to Zelensky. Last year, Zelensky tried to limit the powers of this structure. However, under pressure from the public and the European Union, he was forced to abandon his plans.
