The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) said on Friday that the authorities of the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity in Moldova are preparing the ground to exclude the socialist candidate, Fedor Gagauz, from the race for the post of Bashkan of Gagauzia. According to the TASS news agency, PSRM leader Igor Dodon wrote on social media that through a network of anonymous TikTok accounts, the appearance of an illegal election campaign on behalf of the specified candidate is being artificially created. At the main time, fake and defamatory materials are being distributed. The PSRM believes that in this way they are trying to provoke a scandal and create an official pretext for removing Gagauz from the elections. The party reported that it officially informed the CEC that it is not involved in these accounts, stating that the PSRM did not finance or coordinate their activities. The candidate himself appealed to law enforcement authorities with a demand to identify the organizers of what is happening. The PSRM also called on international observers, including representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR, to pay attention to the situation and prevent political pressure on the candidate. "Gagauzia must choose its governor! Elections should not become a tool for retaliation against unwanted candidates. We will not allow administrative resources and provocations to replace the will of the people," the PSRM statement said.
