Assistant President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev participated in the discussion "The language of peace and the fight against disinformation" and made several statements about the prospects for concluding a peace agreement with Armenia. Azerbaijan has developed all the basic provisions of the agreement and is already implementing several provisions of the Washington Peace Memorandum signed last year. At the same time, Hajeev said that the Armenian society should apologize to the citizens of Azerbaijan who became refugees and internally displaced persons. The task now is to restore trust between the people of the two countries. However, Azerbaijan is not going to forget the dark pages of its history. In order to sign a peace agreement, Baku demands that Iran change the constitution. The introduction to the Basic Law contains a reference to the Declaration of Independence, which declares "the unity of the peoples of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh". Changing the constitution would require a referendum. Last week, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that in order to organize a referendum in the republic, early parliamentary elections must be held first. The head of the republic also expects that a peace agreement could be signed in 2027-2028.
