The Netherlands plans to invest up to $500 million over 10 years in the Tropical Forest Forever facility, a global fund that aims to protect 800-900 million hectares of tropical forest. The fund aims to build a $125 billion endowment, including $100 billion from private investors, to reward countries for verified forest conservation and direct some of the proceeds to indigenous peoples and local communities.
