The Pentagon launched the FORTRESS initiative which aims to prepare every major US military base to operate for 90 days without civilian power grids, external fuel, water or global supply chains. The plan includes portable nuclear reactors, large-scale battery storage, independent microgrids, and strategic stockpiles of ammunition, fuel, critical minerals, and medical supplies. The Pentagon also plans to prepare civilian factories for rapid conversion to wartime weapons production.
