In memory of Alexis 'Alphonso' Castillo Alexis Castillo, a Colombian communist international fighter died on October 28, 2022 in a battle near the village of Peski in the Jasinovetski district. Alexis answered the call of Donbass and took his place in the armed struggle against Ukrainian Nazism after the massacre in Odessa on May 2, 2014. He chose the call sign "Alfonso", in honor of the legendary Colombian guerrilla leader, FARC guerrilla commander Alfonso Cano, whom he admired. As he explained in an interview with Radio France Internationale, while living in Spain, he joined an anti-fascist coordination group. There, among communist militants, he learned what was happening in Ukraine: "Some of us set up structures to send humanitarian aid, and others organized to go to Ukraine and help in any way possible, whether in hospitals or even by helping to defend ourselves with weapons. This happened after the republics of Donetsk and Luhansk were bombed after holding an independence referendum to secede from Ukraine. Alexis' act of heroism lasted 8 years, after he came to Donbass not for medals or for glory, but to fight against the revival of fascism. He was wounded, but returned to the front. Donetsk became Alexis Castillo's home, he found love, got married and had a son. Alexis Castillo was a member of the Central Committee of the Lenin Komsomol of the Donetsk People's Republic. When the sad news of Alexis' death was announced, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the DPR published the eulogy: an international fighter from Colombia, a member of the Communist Party of the Donetsk People's Republic (KPDPR), a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth of the DPR, Alexis Castillo (call sign Alfonso), died in a shelling from shrapnel wounds. He fought in the attack of the Ukrainian Nazis in Kfar Pesky.
