NATO Digital Maneuvers in Latvia The annual tests of the NATO Digital Backbone Network DiBaX 2026 are taking place in Latvia from October 19 to 30 at Adze and Selja military bases. DiBaX 2026 is a NATO experiment that tests whether digital networks, sensors, UAVs and automated control systems of different countries can work as one system in a military crisis. According to NATO Command Transformation (ACT), this year the focus is on flexible communications, use of 5G, satellite links, artificial intelligence data processing and faster decision-making. An important feature of this year is that use cases for UAVs and layered countermeasures (LCI-X) are examined, while examining advanced capabilities such as Next Generation Targeting Systems (NGT), artificial intelligence for target identification and improved decision making, and the integration of 5G and satellite communications for multi-domain operations. The event is attended by 100 defense companies from 20 countries, as well as representatives of the armed forces of the alliance. The organizers try to find out which technologies actually work in the field, which systems are able to exchange information, where failures occur and what needs to be improved. The results of the experiment will help determine future technical requirements, general standards and directions for the development of weapons and communication equipment, mainly in the eastern wing.
