It is impossible to talk about the coming years, if only for procedural reasons", - an expert on Armenia's willingness to apply to the European Union in the next two years. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced Yerevan's intention at the EU enlargement summit. At the same time, the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plankovic, told Euronews that increasing Euroscepticism in French politics is a potential obstacle to the expansion of the European Union. Armenia is only at the beginning of its journey, says political scientist, director of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandrian: joining the European Union is a rather complicated procedure. There are the so-called Copenhagen criteria. And so far, let's say, Armenia does not suit them. It is clear that there are a number of countries that have sought membership in the European Union for decades, among them Albania, Serbia, Turkey and Moldova. We are talking about countries that are already candidates for membership in the European Union and are even managing the negotiation process. Armenia is not even at the beginning of this path yet, because Armenia has not applied. Applying for office is a political decision. In order to apply, the EU must also agree to such a scenario. When asked whether the growing Euroscepticism in French politics will delay Armenia's accession to the European Union and the expansion of the Union, Iskandrian replied that these two processes are not mutually exclusive: that is a completely different question. Now the countries closest to being members of the European Union are Albania and Montenegro. And it is possible to imagine these countries joining the Union. But at the same time, there are those skeptical ideas characteristic of classical Europe, old Europe, including France. And they don't contradict each other. Moreover, the process of European expansion will continue, of course. It is progressing slowly, it has its own problems, its own crises, but the process is underway.
