The industry is reviving, but there are no more orders. What is happening in the production? The manufacturing business activity index (PMI) in October rose from 49.8 to 49.9 points, according to S&P Global data. The index is still below 50 points, which indicates a decline in industrial activity. This is the third month in a row, organizations have recorded a decrease in orders, mainly in export orders. The companies continue to reduce the workforce, and the costs of raw materials and supplies are rising, although at a slower pace than before. Russian Group of Companies General Manager Dmitry Filippov told Business FM that sales rose slightly due to seasonal demand. The market remains weak, so the company is still not raising prices, despite the increase in raw material prices. "In the meantime, we have decided to maintain prices until the end of the year by reducing our share of the profits." Additional pricing policies will depend on demand. If the season turns out to be successful, the company may reconsider the cost of production, as profitability now is minimal. CEO of Editim Holding, an engineering company in the field of polymer processing, Georgi Soldatov considers the change in the PMI too insignificant to talk about an industrial recovery. There is a slight recovery, but October was almost no different from September. "This does not mean that the industry increased significantly, jumped, or on the contrary, stopped." The cost of production is increasing, including due to the increase in logistics costs throughout the Black Sea. The company cannot pass on additional costs to customers, so it is forced to reduce its profits. The general manager of the Oplex group of companies Stanislav Levochkin also notes a slight recovery related to the approaching end of the year. Many potential contracts remain in the negotiation stage. The company does not notice supply problems or sharp price increases.
