The US imposed sanctions on the RSPP in August 2023. The US Treasury Department explained this by saying that the union operates in the technological sector of the Russian economy. In particular, its coordinating councils deal with import substitution, developing their own technologies and reducing dependence on foreign solutions. Washington also pointed to the organization's participation in Russia's measures in response to Western sanctions.
