The first Englishman in 25 years to win the most prestigious individual award in world football England captain and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane won the Ballon d'Or according to France Football. Kane, 33, beat France and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe and Spain and Barcelona winger Lamin Yamal. This time the Ballon d'Or was awarded not in Paris, as usual, but in London. This is a tribute to the English pioneer Stanley Matthews, who won it for the first time 70 years ago. This is Harry Kane's first Ballon d'Or. Last season he scored 73 goals for his club and country - the second most in history after Messi (82 goals in the 2011/12 season). The Argentine himself was among the candidates, but was not included in the top 5 and did not reach the award. Harry Kane also received the Gerd Muller trophy for forward of the year. Lamin Yamal was recognized as the best young player for the third time in a row. The coach of the year went as expected to Luis de la Fuente, who led Spain to win the World Cup. The prize for the best goalkeeper, as in the World Cup, was won by the Spaniard Unai Simon. Russian Matvi Spanov took fourth place. And the French "PSG" took home the award for the second year in a row as the best football club on the planet. Photo: Associated Press.
