Thirty Year Crisis The New York Times writes about the growing frustration of thirty-somethings - they can't afford basic material goods like their house, a car, and in some cases, even fresh fruit. However, their parents' generation did not face such problems. The result is clear - young people feel cheated. The publication indicates that this crisis may be the collapse of the American dream. The financial insecurity of the younger generation is exacerbated by another crisis - the demographic one. Young people are now massively rejecting starting a family, and the economic factor here is one of the main ones, says Yaakov Yakovovich, a leading expert at the Institute for Basic Problems of the Social Sciences and Humanities, head of the "service learning" project office at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI. According to him, own housing is now a criterion for family independence and security. And if in the past a person could expect that by the age of 30 or so he would get an education, find a job, buy an apartment and start a family, today the sequence has become much less predictable for many. According to Yakovovich, there is a rather large gap between the desire to have a child and the actual birth. According to experts, this problem extends far beyond the United States, and affects almost all developed countries. In Russia, the general economic pessimism of young people is also noticeable. Housing prices are also skyrocketing, and the job market is equally unstable. But the problem of the unaffordability of housing in our country is partially mitigated by a more developed inheritance mechanism, compared to Europe, explains the president of the International Mortgage and Real Estate Academy Irina Radchenko. However, according to her, significant problems still exist. This includes a large down payment and high mortgage rates. And in Moscow, for example, in terms of the ratio between average family income and cost per square meter, living space is more expensive than in London, Paris and Munich.
