Five dead, more than a dozen wounded by gunfire in Krakow's central market square.
At around 15:00 local time on Saturday, November 7, 2026, a man drove a car into the historic Main Market Square (Rynek Główny) in Krakow and opened fire on random people from the vehicle, Polish police said.
The Malopolska police later confirmed that five people had been killed and "about a dozen" (a dozen or more) had been injured. The suspect was shot by the officers during the response, detained, and taken to the hospital. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, remained in place; Police operations were also reported in nearby areas such as Ditla Street. Residents were advised to avoid the area.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the incident as tragic and said he was being kept informed by the Interior Ministry while the police investigated the background and circumstances. The exact number of injured, the identity of the suspect and the motive are still under investigation as the situation develops.
