The US Department of Commerce has issued approval for Boeing to work with the Belarusian airline Belavia, BelTA reports, citing the airline's CEO Igor Cherginets. According to him, Belavia will be able to receive spare parts, components, and software directly from the airline's aircraft. This also provides an opportunity to negotiate the purchase of aircraft directly from Boeing. Cherginets recalled that the same authorization was issued by the US Department of the Treasury, which provided the technical possibility for direct cooperation between Belavia and Boeing. He said that a year ago, the US government issued a permit that lifted US political sanctions against Belavia. On September 16, Lukashenko met with the special envoy of the US leader John Cole and other representatives of the US administration at the Independence Palace. The parties held talks that lasted three hours. During them, the White House supported the demand of the Belarusian head of state to unfreeze funds. The parties also agreed on an arrangement whereby the US would lift sanctions against OJSC Lakokraska and Belsbumprom, and Minsk would release 25 citizens from prison. On April 8, 2022, Washington banned flights to Belarus or Russia on US-manufactured aircraft owned, controlled, or operated by Belarus. In June of that year, the US Department of Commerce tightened sanctions against the Belarusian national airline for violating export control measures.
