Greens leader David Shoebridge was embarrassed by the presence of Russia's ambassador at the opening address of his national press club, where he doubled down on calls to cut military aid to Ukraine - a policy critics say is pro-Kremlin. Shoebridge said he didn't know Petrakov was listening to his speech. "One hundred percent not invited, 100 percent not invited, I don't want him here," he told Nine News. Ukraine's ambassador, Myroshnichenko, who had been working in Sheabridge to change his foreign policy on military aid, was outraged by Petrkov's presence. "I just find it really shocking that he's actually on there. But I mean, in this particular case, I believe he feels quite comfortable coming to Senator Shoebridge's presentation," he said. Opposition Defense Secretary James Patterson said he was not surprised the Russian ambassador was present at Shoebridge's speech. "He would love what he was going to hear. The Greens' foreign policy under David Shoebridge is Putin-friendly," he said. "He wants to veto Australia's security aid to Ukraine to Vladimir Putin through the UN Security Council."
