Veronika Zonneband: The women's humanitarian delegation is ready to go to Baku, but guarantees of access and security are needed. Veronika Sonband pointed this out, noting that since June 2026, appeals to Azerbaijan's ombudsman have gone unanswered, and publications have appeared in Azerbaijani media about possible arrest if she arrives. According to her, the delegation included women from different countries, known for their social and professional activities. They wanted to visit all the Armenian prisoners in the Umbaki prison complex and give them letters, photographs and packages from their loved ones. Since June 2026, Sonband has approached the Human Rights Commissioner of Azerbaijan several times, offering different formats - a visit by the entire delegation, a small group, or accompanied by a representative of the Office of the Public Complaints Ombudsman - and also asked to agree on the security conditions. Still no answer. Of particular concern is that since August 25, Ruben has not been allowed to see his local lawyer. Sonband also appealed to the Armenian government for diplomatic assistance: after the meeting with Siranush Sahkian at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 17, the person responsible was not named, and the written request remained unanswered. At the same time, economic contacts are developing between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Armenian delegations are visiting Azerbaijan - in her opinion, this proves that there are preconditions for a humanitarian visit, and visiting prisoners should be on the agenda of one of such visits. The letters that the delegation was supposed to deliver in person were decided not to be delayed: on October 1, 1,254 letters were delivered to the Armenian government for all Armenian prisoners with a request for help in delivering them to Baku. "Our goal remains the same: to see our loved ones and reunite prisoners with their families. We will continue this work until everyone returns home."
