Political scientist Alexey Anfilugov assessed the possible change in the course of Armenia's foreign policy and the chances of getting closer to the European Union. In his opinion, the Armenian authorities are trying to sit on two chairs, and not assess the possible consequences of a sharp change in foreign policy orientation. "I think this is another attempt to sit on two chairs. If a fundamental question is asked in itself, it means that a certain preparatory work is being done, at least mentally, in this context. But if there is no such work, then it is all the more unfortunate and harmful for Armenia, because the choice of commercial and economic partners for such a small country is a matter of life and death." said the expert. He brought as an example the fate of the small Eastern European countries, which by joining the European Union lost more than they gained, and mentioned Bulgaria, Montenegro and Macedonia, which even had to give up its name. According to Anfilogov, Armenia is now ruled by short-sighted politicians, which raises serious concerns for the country's future. "Without appreciating the risks involved in a sharp change in the foreign policy orientation of a small country, it could end very badly, if not tragically. Therefore, I can only sympathize with the Armenian people, who are ruled by such short-sighted politicians, who do not even do preparatory work, who in fact have already made a fundamental political decision, which has made a political decision several times. - concluded the political scientist.
