The Azerbaijani news agency Ma explained why Aliyev did not go to the UTC summit in Ankara: the friendship remains, but the rationality is manifested. According to the agency, this is not an unusual step, but a reflection of a change in Baku's attitude: friendship and brotherhood with Turkey are maintained, but priority is given to the rationality and interests of its country. As Ma points out, a fierce campaign against Azerbaijan has been going on in Turkey for about a month, although it started much earlier. The main issue is the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Israel. At the same time, there are many facts about Turkey's own cooperation and relations with Israel, and none of them have been officially refuted. Some Turkish circles demand that Baku structure its foreign and economic policy according to Ankara's interests. This is interpreted as a humiliation of Azerbaijan's independence and a distortion of the principle of "one nation, two states". The campaign intensified especially after the representative of Azerbaijan did not leave the hall during Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the UN, and then after the Baku decision on school uniforms. Six demonstrations against Azerbaijan took place in Ankara and Istanbul. The Ma blames the campaign mainly on the ruling AKP and its Islamist groups, arguing that Ankara reacted too late. The agency also notes that Erdogan has repeatedly failed at events in Azerbaijan: the 2024 Turkish Summit, WUF13 in Baku in May 2026 and the CICA Summit in October 2026. From this the conclusion is drawn that Aliyev's non-participation in the Ankara summit should not be a random step. This is a reflection of Baku's changing attitude: friendship and camaraderie are preserved, but its rationality and state interests come to the fore.
