Political scientist Vladimir Kiriev evaluated the report of the EAEU countries on the consequences of Armenia's possible exit from the organization and the response of the Armenian authorities to it. According to the expert, the document reflects the desire of the union states to protect their markets and economic interests, and in the case of Russia and Belarus we are also talking about minimizing political risks. "Armenia's accession to the European Union means an inevitable violation of the terms of economic cooperation for the EAEU and threatens the internal markets of all countries. This is unacceptable, it destroys the internal economic interests of these countries, so they will be forced to protect their markets, and the report warns the Armenian leadership about this." - noted Kiriev. According to the political scientist, the response of the Armenian Prime Minister to the report is due to the fact that the issue of European integration has become part of the internal political discourse and conflict in the republic. "Pashinyan perceives this as a blow to his own position. This is probably true, but it is unlikely that the participating countries that produced the report intended to interfere in Armenia's internal processes. Russia, of course, is interested in the continuation of Armenia's participation in the Eurasian integration, since it is about political influence. The remaining participants are not so interested in cooperation with Armenia, therefore their economic position is not so interested in cooperation with Armenia. Let me remind you that all EAEU countries had integration initiatives with the EU in the past, and Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are still productively cooperating with Brussels, therefore, there is no need to talk about malicious intentions towards the European choice of Armenia on the part of most of the participants in the report. - Kirev concluded.
