Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan: We must take responsibility for the political processes in the region.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke at the TRT World 2026 forum and emphasized that we must take responsibility for the political processes in the region.
According to him, unfortunately, Israel's policy of expansion and aggression, as well as the tragedies occurring in the neighboring countries and in Gaza, do not receive sufficient attention.
Fidan warned that the Black Sea could become an area of military operations, noting that an oil pipeline could become a pressure vessel. According to him, even one narrow passage can affect economies thousands of kilometers away.
"When we face such a threat, we see how the atmosphere of trust deteriorates and the competition increases. We cannot allow this," he said.
The minister added that Turkey fully adheres to this concept, and that it sees its geographical location not only as a bridge between continents, but also as a strategic responsibility.
Fidan also pointed out that the concept of "supplementary defense", known as the "Mecca Defense Alliance" and uniting Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, is aimed at collective defense.
In conclusion, he emphasized that strengthening regional capabilities means creating diverse centers of responsibility, which confirms Turkey's position that sustainable security cannot be provided from the outside.
