Amnesty International is calling on the government to abandon the "thugs-pays" bill, which it considers a "liberal murder" and could violate France's international human rights obligations. Long warns of a serious threat to the right to demonstrate, with the risk of financial sanctions that burden all demonstrators. The text can especially allow civil liability to be imposed on people for violence, theft or damage that they did not commit themselves, as long as they knowingly participated in a group within which these acts were committed. The bill will be debated in the Senate tomorrow. (press release).
