Famous stand-up comedian's lawyer swears at journalist after his client was found guilty and entered a legal stand-off On November 5, a jury at Southwark Crown Court in London found actor and stand-up comedian Russell Brand guilty of rape and three counts of sexual assault. Following the verdict, barrister Ian Winter KC of Yarid Bed Chambers (pictured) cursed at a journalist involved in the comedian's investigation, Legal Life reports. Brand is a 51-year-old British stand-up comedian, ex-BBC presenter, actor in the films Flying and Escape from Vegas and ex-husband of singer Katy Perry. In recent years, he has moved away from traditional show business and built a large online audience around political commentary, religion and conspiracy theories. What is important to know is that the case dealt with seven charges related to six women. The jury found proven rape of a fan at Brand's home in 2009 and three sexual assaults of other women. Brand denied he did. The women came to the police after an investigation by "The Times", "The Sunday Times" and "Shilhot Arutz 4" in 2023. According to police, investigators interviewed more than 100 witnesses, received more than 400 pieces of testimony and examined more than 1,400 documents. Because the events were so long ago, there were no video recordings or forensic evidence. The defense claimed that the publications shaped the attitude towards the brand in advance and affected the memories of the applicants. Judge Yoel Benathan previously rejected an attempt to stop the trial due to biased media coverage. After the verdict, Winter told the "Sunday Times" journalist Rosamond Orwin: "I hope you are pleased with yourself." She replied that she was glad that justice had been done. The defense attorney objected and in an obscene language accused her of destroying everything. More precisely, the lawyer stated: "Well, it wasn't. You nailed it, congratulations." The brand has already been taken into custody. The sentence will be imposed on November 9. Just the facts.
